Foot orthoses play a vital role in both preventing and treating foot and lower limb disorders. They are typically divided into two categories: prefabricated devices and custom-made devices. Prefabricated devices offer a standard contour, customizable to the user’s needs. In contrast, custom-made devices are meticulously crafted from casts, impressions, or scans of an individual's unique foot structure. At Mediatrix Podiatry Centre we offer both prefabricated and custom-made devices.
Nail surgery involves the partial or complete removal of a toenail while the patient is under local anesthesia. This procedure is typically recommended when an individual is dealing with a troublesome ingrown toenail causing significant discomfort. If conventional management through regular podiatry visits isn't effective, nail surgery becomes an option. Additionally, nail surgery might be considered if the nail has sustained damage due to a fungal infection.

Dr. Stephen Mizzi

Podiatrist

Stephen is an accomplished podiatrist whose career spans more than two decades. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Podiatry from Queen Margaret University (Edinburgh) in 2000, marking the beginning of his journey in the field.

During his 13-year tenure with the National Health Service, Stephen focused on advancing his expertise. He earned a Post Graduate Certificate in Podiatric Surgery (Theory), followed by a Masters Degree in Podiatry from the University of Brighton (UK) in 2008, further enhancing his knowledge and clinical skills.

With dedication and hard work, Stephen successfully defended his doctoral thesis and was awarded his PhD from Canterbury Christ Church University (UK) in March 2017. Throughout his career, Stephen has been actively engaged in clinical practice, making significant contributions to patient care. With over 23 years of private practice experience, he has attended to a diverse range of patients, consistently delivering the highest quality of care. Stephen is also a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow).

Podiatrist

Martina is a dedicated professional who earned her B.Sc (Hons) in Podiatry from the University of Malta. Her journey in the field began with a role at a Rehabilitation Hospital, where she skillfully manages an array of foot and ankle conditions. From addressing skin and nail disorders to effectively handling ulcerations, vascular issues, and neurological concerns, Martina demonstrates her expertise in every aspect of podiatry care.

Her commitment to excellence extends beyond her clinical practice. As a proud member of the Association of Podiatrists of Malta, Martina actively contributes to the advancement of her profession and stays updated on the latest developments in podiatric care.

Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Gerontology and Geriatrics, reflecting her dedication to providing comprehensive care that spans the entire spectrum of foot health needs. With a blend of academic accomplishments, hands-on experience, and a continuous pursuit of knowledge, Martina embodies the spirit of exceptional podiatric care.
